Let’s move recovery One.Step.Forward.
Nobody chooses to suffer from addiction. There is hope for a brighter future, where those suffering can find support without stigma or fear of judgement.
One Step Forward: An Alliance for Advancing Recovery is proposing recommendations to the Ontario Government to comprehensively address opioid use disorder across the province.
Join our mission to increase the number of people in active recovery. Tell your MPP: it’s time to break down barriers so more people suffering from addiction can access a journey to recovery.
Our Recommendations
“Ontario should act urgently to improve access to the full range of treatment options for those living with opioid use disorder, giving people the opportunity to navigate a course to recovery that better meets with their individual needs and challenges. The current approach is too narrowly defined, leaving barriers to access for many people for whom the standard approach isn’t suitable.”
Establish a cross-ministry Emergency Task Force to coordinate efforts across multiple ministries and engage external stakeholders, creating a synchronized approach to addressing the addiction crisis.
Launch and fund a remote access program – the Virtual Opioid Addiction Treatment Service – as one of several additional options connecting more people to the timely treatment and supports they need.
Reform current compensation and funding models for addiction care to ensure a patient-centered approach.
Empower pharmacists to play a greater role in treating people suffering from opioid use disorder. Ontario should amend the Pharmacy Regulations by updating the list to permit the administration of therapies approved by Health Canada since 2019.
